Could Copper Class Up Your Kitchen?

When creating a rustic escape, the more handmade the items in your special place are, the more real the escape becomes. While many don’t have a problem finding country furniture, pillows, and lighting options that can fit the bill, a kitchen or bathroom sink is another matter. If you’re like most people, a stainless steel or porcelain sink doesn’t exactly evoke a rustic feel. But there is a cure. Get rid of those sinks and put in copper ones instead.

When it comes to handmade sinks, Mexican copper sinks are the way to go. Artisans hand-hammer these magnificent copper kitchen sinks and copper bathroom sinks. They are not only become a practical part of your home, but an artistic one as well. That’s because only one piece of copper is used in their manufacture, and that sheet is heated and hammered until it is molded into the perfect shape. It is then given a patina finish before becoming a part of your home.

If the hammered look is not up your alley, you may want to look into copper farmhouse sinks. Instead of the hammered look, these copper farm sinks have very defined looks and edges, and will make you think of the copper vessel sink a mother may have used a century ago as she prepared a meal for the family.

There is an added benefit to the modern copper farmhouse sink. Many of them have been created to fit into stock cabinets, so you will not have to rip apart the entire kitchen to put in a new fixture. Simply order the same size as your existing sink and drop it in.

If you’ve had enough of scrubbing your sinks to keep them clean, another benefit of copper sinks is that maintenance is a cinch. Want it bright and shiny? A quick polish job will do it. Over time if it starts to show a lot of wear and tear and you want the scratches to go away, a re-sand job will make it look new again.  And don’t worry about rusting; the patina on the sink will keep that from happening.
